HOW WE WORK

PROTESTINDIA.COM exists so ordinary people at home can follow the students' movement without being fed misinformation. Here is exactly how we operate, so you can decide whether to trust us.

Who runs this

A small group of volunteers. We are not a company, not a media house, and not connected to any political party, candidate, or organisation, on any side. Nobody pays us and we run no ads.

The one rule: no source, no story

Every update on this site links to its original source (Al Jazeera, Reuters, The Hindu, NPR, and others). This isn't a slogan, it's enforced in our database: an update without a working source link cannot be published. If we can't source it, you won't see it.

How the news gets here

A program automatically reads the public news feeds of established outlets every 30 minutes and shows the movement-related stories, each linking back to the outlet. We don't rewrite or spin the reporting; we point you to it. The 'Fake news, busted' section works the same way, pulling published fact-checks from Alt News and BOOM.

How the link checker works

Paste any link and we tell you what kind of source it is, a trusted independent outlet, a site fact-checkers have repeatedly caught spreading falsehoods, a big outlet worth cross-checking, or a social post that depends entirely on the account. It does not 'magically' detect lies; it classifies the source and shows you how to verify the claim yourself. Everything runs in your browser; the links you paste are never sent to us.

How we choose channels

The trusted-channels list favours independent journalists and outlets with a track record of accurate, on-the-ground reporting, plus IFCN-recognised fact-checkers. It is community-curated and always up for scrutiny. Handles can change, so we ask you to confirm the verified badge on-platform.

We will get things wrong

We're volunteers, not a newsroom. When we make a mistake, the source link lets you catch us, so please do. Found an error? Tell us and we'll fix it. Fighting misinformation only works if we hold ourselves to the same standard.
